Task #10 New Website

Love it, Love it! The new website is so much friendlier to me and easier to navigate, even I can find anything I'm looking for which is sometimes a real challenge.
Great job, I know the patrons will find it easier also.

Task #9 Universal Class

This is one great site for taking classes on almost anything, I really reviewed alot of classes I would be interested in, and might pick one later on. Just not in the mood right now to learn anything new.

Task # 8 Espanol LibGuide

I didn't get to go to the training in Oct. for the spanish LibGuide so was quite lost and had to get help doing this, it was a good learning experience translating from Spanish to English thru Google.
I didn't get a very good score, but at least over 50%.

Task #7 Cloud Computing - Google Docs and Drop Box

I watched the Cloud Computing in Plain English video before on a different task# and it makes a little more sense this time around, I don't know if I would pick Google Docs or Drop Box after watching those videos as they are something I would never use.

Extra Credit #2 A Google A Day

The Google searching takes alot of time, so after trying to find the answer for while I had to use a hint to give me some idea what to look for first, then after trying that for a while I went back for the other hint and finally found the right answer.
I plan to try this every day now that I know about it, and get more used to doing searches, even if I have to use hints.
If I have a chance I would like the gift certificate.

Task #5 Chilton Library

This is an easy site to work with and has alot of information for repair, maintenance, and recall on vehicles. I checked out my car and found detailed drawings and hands on pictures on repair which are easy to follow.
It seems any one inclined to do repairs on vehicles would have an easy time following what is on the web site.

Task #4 Downloading E-Books

I read the guide on downloading E-Readers on the downloadable media tab on the library web site,
and found a couple articles in Consumer Reports, the best one was Electronics: A World of Choice in the Consumer Reports Buying Guide Jan. 1, 2011 page 42. I still have no desire to purchase an E-Reader, as it seems like all electronic devices that you buy are soon updated and the one you have is obsolete, I shall always be reading the old fashioned paper back or hard cover book.

Task #3 Intro to Master File

This was a harder task than usual to me and I had to watch the video several times over a couple days while on my break and it was confusing.
Finally I did find an article in Consumer Reports dated Jan. 2011 Best Phones and Plans Volume 76 Issue #1 Pages 26-29.
Extra Credit;
Rolling Stone magazine 1/9/92, one article on first page was Michael Jackson; Making of the King of Pop. That wasn't easy to find!
I would like an Extra Ticket to go to the $100.00 downtown gift card.

Discovery Task # 2 Website Scavenger Hunt

It was pretty easy finding the answers, but I missed one, so not as easy as I thought, did not miss # 10 though.
I'm ready to get started again and hopefully will get desk time to do it. I'm just too busy working when I'm at work, talk to you later.

Discovery Task # 1 Create a Blog

Back again for another shot at Webolution, it's been a while so this will take alot of remembering for me, at least I got back in here.
It will be interesting and fun to see what tasks we'll have to do.
I opt for the 100.00 Downtown Gift Certificate.

What the Heck is " Cloud Computing"? -- November

I've seen Cloud Computing commercials on TV, but had no idea what it really meant.
I watched the video and read the articles in Forbes, also read the blogs from library leaders on how Cloud Computing can effect libraries, it seems like a good idea if everything is safe and would be cheaper.
I think patrons would like idea and convenience.

Election Lib - Guide - September Task

I reviewed all 5 tabs in the Election LibGuide and found the site has tons of information, that would answer any questions about the election, the blue book is especially good with the pros and cons, I have received one in the mail and always scan through it before voting.
I attended the LibGuides computer class, and learned alot about the different guides we have access to, they are excellent.
Didn't have time to research the quiz and missed two.

August - Helpful Links

This is really an interesting site to be able to find all the pictures and videos for any given year, I found 942 viewable clips for my birth year and viewed quite a few.
I could not find anything for the month, day, and year so far as I don't have the time to view all of them.

The minimum cooking temperature for fresh pork is 160 degrees.
This site has some good food safety information.

My time is up got to go!

June Task - Newseum's Front Pages

July 1, 2010
Interesting site, I spent alot of time reading frontpages of the day, unable to continue with an article I would like to read unless I would leave the site and download the entire newspaper, which is too time consuming.
It is amazing they have 838 front pages from 80 countries, the top 10 front pages of the day, also you can locate a paper by state, and view archived pages.

May Task - Free e-books

I visited the Gutenberg site first and spent some time looking around at different book titles, I picked a newer release date and downloaded the book Maid Sally by Harriett Cheever released on May 11, 2010 ( E book # 32336)
Spent some time in Many Books browsing through many of the cover images which were very old and really neat, saw the cover for Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott and Aesop's Fables which are books I had as a child.
Google Books was my favorite site, there are alot of subjects to pick from, I downloaded The Best Women's Travel Writing 2008; True Stories from Around the World by Lucy McCauley, enjoyed it, also read the 11 reviews about the book.
I still would rather have a book in hand to read, just call me old fashioned.

April Task: Optimal Resume

I went to research tools and found optimal resume, then opened an account.
In the document center I explored all the document options and watched the video for each one.
Did an exploratory job search in the search jobs tab. I found everything to be very helpful and easy to understand, a great website to start a job search, this will be great for patrons.

I watched the video then printed this article from the GJ Sentinel after pasting the url into the print friendly web site, it works great, and I expect to use it for personal printing.

Elk foundation to fund projects | GJSentinel.com

Elk herds and other wildlife in Mesa County and 13 other western Colorado counties are expected to benefit from a variety of conservation projects funded for this year by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

The foundation has announced it will spend $146,250 on projects that include prescribed burns in over-mature forests, restoring riparian habitat and research into the causes of Sudden Aspen Decline.

The projects will be done in Archuleta, Chaffee, Delta, Fremont, Garfield, Grand, Gunnison, Las Animas, Mesa, Montrose, Ouray, Park, Rio Blanco and San Miguel counties.

In Mesa County, elk foundation funds will be used to improve winter forage for elk and deer on the Grand Mesa National Forest by burning 2,167 acres of decadent shrubs and juniper in the Kannah Creek Basin and another 2,317 acres in the Mud Hill and Reservoir Gulch areas.

Research on the possible causes of Sudden Aspen Decline will include building fencing around 10 aspen stands in Montrose, Mesa, Ouray, San Miguel and Delta counties for study of of ungulate browsing and conifer encroachment.

Eighty acres of noxious weeds in the Tabeguache area of Uncompahgre National Forest will be treated and reseeded with native grasses.

“These grants are possible because of the successful banquets and fundraisers staged over the past year by our Colorado volunteers, most of whom are elk hunters as well as devoted conservationists,” said David Allen, chief executive officer and president of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. “Since 1984, our annual grants have helped complete 502 different projects in Colorado with a combined value of more than $115 million.”

February Task: Learn - A - Test

I registered for an account with Learn- A - Test and went through all the guides to get you started. I checked out several different tests for jobs and careers, but did not complete a full test as they are too long and time consuming for the time I had to do this.

Task # 22 Blogs we like

I looked at the blogs that were listed and my favorite was Lifehacker, it has alot of interesting ideas etc. Making cookies in 90 seconds with a waffle iron from Martha Stewart was a favorite, that's my kind of cooking the quicker the better.
I don't follow any blogs so have none to suggest.
